The wait is partly over: the NTA has officially published the JEE Main 2027 schedule, and Session 1 will be held on 22–30 January 2027. But here’s what most sites are getting wrong — registration has not opened yet. Below is a clean split of what’s genuinely confirmed and what’s still only expected, so you plan on facts, not rumours.
What’s officially confirmed
On 16 September 2026, the NTA released its Examination Calendar up to March 2027. It confirms the JEE Main 2027 Session 1 (January) exam window:

How JEE Main 2027 will work (the basics that don’t change)
- Two sessions — January (Session 1) and April (Session 2). You may attempt one or both.
- Best score counts — if you sit both, your higher NTA score is used for ranking. A weak Session 1 isn’t the end.
- Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) is the route to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs via JoSAA; it’s also the gateway to JEE Advanced for the IITs.
- Top ~2.5 lakh Paper-1 qualifiers become eligible to attempt JEE Advanced.
- No age limit; students who passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing in 2027, are eligible.
The realistic timeline to plan around
The October/November points are based on last year’s pattern and are not yet officially confirmed — treat them as a planning guide, not a deadline.
What to do right now (before registration opens)
- Lock the exam window — 22–30 January 2027 is your real target date. Build your revision plan backwards from it.
- Keep your documents ready — Class 10 & 12 details, a valid photo ID, scanned photo and signature, and a working email/phone for the portal.
- Bookmark the official portal — jeemain.nta.nic.in — and apply the day the window opens; early registration avoids the last-day server rush.
- Don’t wait for “perfect” readiness to register — registering and preparing are separate tasks.

Quick answers
Is JEE Main 2027 registration open now?
Not yet. As of the NTA’s September 2026 calendar, only the Session 1 exam dates (22–30 January 2027) are confirmed. Registration is expected around October 2026, with the exact dates in the Information Bulletin.
When is the JEE Main 2027 Session 1 exam?
22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027, with 31 January as a buffer day — as per the official NTA Examination Calendar.
How many attempts do I get?
Two sessions a year (January and April). You can appear in one or both; your best NTA score is used for your rank.
What’s the fee?
The 2027 fee will be confirmed in the Information Bulletin, which isn’t out yet. Don’t rely on unofficial figures until the bulletin is published.
Does JEE Main get me into the IITs?
Indirectly. JEE Main (Paper 1) admits you to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, and the top ~2.5 lakh qualifiers can then attempt JEE Advanced, which is the actual entrance for the IITs.
